What “unique” means: each day, a device counts once, no matter how many pages it opens or how often it refreshes. It's recognised by a one-way hash of its IP address and browser together with a random code that changes every day; the hash is deleted at midnight (UTC), so nobody can be tracked across days. The 30-day number adds up the days, so someone who visits on 3 different days counts 3 times, and two browsers or a new network count as separate visitors. Visitors who block the counter (some ad blockers) aren't counted. The “unique views” under each update post work the same way, but per post: a device counts once per post per day, added up since the counter started.
